Immediate changes in the steel market
Mar 2026
We want to make you aware of some significant changes that are already impacting project costs and programme certainty across the steel market.
Steel costs are rising across the supply chain, prompting mills and suppliers to rapidly increase their prices, rises that are taking effect now—not in the future.
These increases are being driven by recent UK Steel Strategy changes, alongside sharp rises in energy costs linked to the ongoing Iran conflict.
As a result, our position is clear:
We are unlikely to be able to honour any quotations that have expired or are based on historic tender pricing.
What this Means for your projects
You should expect:
- Higher steel costs than previously tendered
- Ongoing price increases in the short to medium term
- Reduced availability on some sections and longer lead times
- Greater risk for projects secured on older rates
This is particularly important on projects where steel packages have not yet been placed or fixed
What we need you to do
To help protect your business and avoid exposure, we strongly recommend:
- Do not accept orders based on old steel prices without speaking to us first
- Send accurate and realistic programmes with all enquiries
- Engage early on live projects, especially those tendered some time ago
The sooner we chat, the better we can help – whether it’s with a clear, honest picture of your current costs or support to avoid further issues down the line.
Why early engagement matters
The market is moving quickly, and pricing can change in a short space of time. By speaking to us early, we can:
- Advise on current steel rates and future projections
- Highlight any risks to your project
- Help you plan procurement more effectively
- Work with you to avoid unexpected cost increases
We understand the pressure this will inevitably put on our customers, particularly where margins are tight. Our aim is to work with you openly to manage these changes and keep your projects on track.
Please contact us before progressing any live or upcoming jobs – we’re here to help.
