As a family-founded firm with expertise spanning five generations, this drive is embedded in us all – from our contracts department to those working onsite at a build. We’re delighted to say that we’ve contributed to some award-winning projects recently:

North Barn Itchenor Park Farm

Winner of 2025 Commercial Award (sponsored by Savills)

Awarded to a non-residential project, restoration, conversion, or new build

Project scope:

Full restoration of a Grade II listed 18th-century barn, originally built for the third Duke Of Richmond, carefully balancing heritage conservation with ecological sensitivity. Extensive weatherproofing repairs were undertaken alongside the removal of intrusive modern elements and reinstatement of original architectural features.

How S-FABS contributed:

  • Integral structural works including the installation of sturdy post shoes for timber posts and steel flitch plates
  • Installation of grand entrance gates

Newhaven Fort

Winner of 2025 Public & Community Award (sponsored by Gravetye Manor)

Awarded to a project that provides or improves facilities for the community

Project scope:

A £7.5 million conservation-led transformation of Newhaven Fort to secure the monument’s future as a heritage asset for the community. A bespoke sustainability strategy was adhered to for all elements: masonry repairs, casemate restoration, accessibility improvements, and the creation of new exhibitions, a gift shop, and a playground.

How S-FABS contributed:

  • Restoration and curation of surrounding casemates and ramp structures
  • Installation of various balustrades
  • Extensive structural strengthening to uphold the original central staircase

Thwaites House

Winner of 2025 Public & Community Award (sponsored by Gravetye Manor)

Awarded to a project that provides or improves facilities for the community

Project scope:

Replacement of an unused two-storey building to create a practical base for Chichester-based charity, Christian Youth Enterprises. The new space houses staff accommodation, training rooms, kit storage, boat maintenance, and safeguarding-conscious showering facilities.

How S-FABS contributed:

  • Creation of balustrades and handrails for a new external staircase, imperative to daily use of the building

West Wittering Safety And Facilities Hub

Winner of 2025 Public & Community Award (sponsored by Gravetye Manor)

Awarded to a project that provides or improves facilities for the community

Project scope:

Creation of a low-impact building to replace the outdated lifeguard and public amenities at West Wittering beach – including a lookout tower, medical facilities, public toilets, and showers. With air-source heat pumps, rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV), and biodiversity-focused landscaping, the new hub epitomises environmentally sensitive coastal infrastructure.

How S-FABS contributed:

  • Supply of a 41-tonne steel frame, acting as the main support for every area throughout the build

Waterfront Contemporary


Winner of 2025 Small Scale Residential: New Build Aware (sponsored by Irwin Mitchell)

Awarded to a new-build of one unit, which enhances and preserves its environment

Project scope:
Replacement of a dwelling overlooking the South Downs to create a modern new build property. Various eco-friendly elements were incorporated including mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, a ground source heat pump, solar panels, and a green roof, while extensive landscaping enhanced biodiversity for a climate-conscious result.

How S-FABS contributed:

  • Supply of a 70-tonne steel frame, acting as the main support for every area throughout the build

Tamarisk (seaside home)

Winner of 2025 South Master Builder Award for a Large Renovation Project (Federation of Master Builders)
Awarded to a large renovation project in the South of England

Project scope:

Complete renovation and extension of a stunning beachside residence with custom finishes that harmonise with the coastal surroundings. The plan included a full landscaping scheme for multiple garden zones and an outdoor shower as well as many structural changes to accommodate an exceptional interior design.

How S-FABS contributed:

  • Manufacture and installation of structural steelwork, frameless glass balustrades and an external staircase
