S-FABS take second place in the 2026 Selsey Lifeboat Week Raft Race

The annual Selsey Lifeboat Week took place from Sunday 26^th July to Sunday 2^nd August, and as ever, it featured a wide range of events to celebrate and support the Selsey Lifeboat Station. The station is part of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), a national charity dedicated to saving lives at sea – and at S-FABS, we regularly fundraise for the cause.

We always look forward to this event. For 2026, it was wonderful to see so many local businesses and residents come together in recognition of the invaluable work this charity does for us 365 days a year.

After the week’s entertainment, including fireworks, a drone show, local community stalls, quizzes and much more, the highly anticipated raft race brought the event to a dramatic close on Sunday 2nd August. We entered our own team of six for the 450m race along the beach. As ever, all teams had to compete in a self-made raft, which always makes for an interesting race!

There were hundreds of spectators lining the beach, and their support carried us and every team under the beating hot sun. We didn’t defend our first-place position from 2025, but we were delighted that our raft held up to a second-place result. The trophy now sits proudly in our office as a reminder of why we continue to join forces to support the RNLI Selsey.

In addition to the raft race, we also sponsored the tug of war that took place on Saturday 1^st August. Sponsoring this gave us a great opportunity to lower the event’s costs and maximise income – plus, it was quite the spectacle! There was plenty of camaraderie and a healthy dose of competition between local businesses.

The Selsey Lifeboat Station provides a 24-hour search and rescue service, seasonal lifeguards and water safety initiatives. It relies solely on the support of volunteers and donations to power this lifesaving service, so events like Lifeboat Week are crucial in enabling the team to continue saving lives at sea.

Several of our team selflessly volunteer at the Selsey lifeboat station, so Lifeboat Week is a staple in our company calendar. It’s a lovely way to show our gratitude for what our colleagues and others in the community do to keep residents safe in the water.

We’re already looking forward to the 2027 event!
